Opus Codec logoI’m going to cover the Opus codec and posting legally-free audio on the web as the next episode. Ingress is just now starting to get some changes that should make it substantially more interesting (and it was pretty interesting to begin with, I think!), but not only do I want some time to actually try out the changes, I think the subject of the Opus codec is getting relatively more “urgent”, so I’m bumping it up to the top of the list.

I’ll be talking about the codec itself and why it’s awesome and everybody should use it, HOW to use it, what to use it for, how metadata works in it, and so on. If there’s anything in particular you want to know about it, just ask and I’ll try to include an answer.

Meanwhile, I’m regularly updating the aforementioned list of “Potentially Upcoming Shows” that I’m thinking of and/or working on for Hacker Public Radio, as I come up with new ideas. Suggestions and requests are welcome!

I wonder if you’re already done with the Opus episode… What I’d like to see included:
Maybe you can give us an overview of the new niceness that’s coming up in version 1.1 of the official encoder – the surround stuff, quality improvements, VBR stuff, speed optimisations, and what not.

Ah! No, not done yet (our busy season has started up and it’s keeping me pretty busy scrubbing toilets, etc.) but I’m trying to get it done soon.
This is a good reminder, actually – I know 1.1 is due to hit Beta any day now, with the final release of 1.1 expected sometime in a month or two. I’ll make sure I get some information about the release to include. Thanks for the reminder!
